Enhanced Resource Provision

Welcome to The Den – A Nurturing and Inclusive Learning Space

The Den is an 8 place specialist provision within our mainstream school. It is designed to support children who have an EHCP in the area of communication and interaction and who have a high level of need. Our dedicated team creates a personalised and holistic learning environment, where every child is valued, understood, and celebrated.

We work in close partnership with parents, the Local Authority, and external agencies to ensure the very best support for each child. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, helping us to tailor learning experiences that nurture academic progress alongside social, emotional, and physical development.

We are incredibly proud of The Den and the supportive, nurturing environment it provides. Our goal is to help every child feel happy, safe, and confident so they can thrive and reach their full potential.

A Typical Day in The Den

Our day begins at 9.00am when the children arrive and settle in at their own pace. They have the opportunity to enjoy a snack or breakfast if needed, creating a calm and welcoming start to the day.

Our morning session runs from 9.30am until 12.00pm. During which time we engage in short, focused learning opportunities some of which include Fine/Gross Motor Skills, Phonics, Literacy and Maths activities. We also ensure that there are plenty of opportunities for play and regulation throughout this time.

Lunch runs from 12.00 to 1.00pm and then our afternoon session runs from 1.00pm until 3.00pm. In the afternoon, our activities are centered around a theme - often linked to the wider world, the community, or the children’s interests. This session includes a mix of short, structured tasks, many of which focus on creativity, life skills, and hands-on learning.

Throughout the day, we also incorporate tailored interventions based on individual needs, including speech and language support, intensive interactions, and sensory activities. Our flexible approach ensures that each child receives the support they need while enjoying a structured yet engaging environment.

Admissions

Although The Den is an integral part of our school, placements are allocated by the Local Authority in consultation with parents and professionals. Once a placement is agreed, we work closely with families and the Local Authority to ensure each child’s needs are fully met within our provision. Transition for each child will be carefully planned to meet the child’s individual needs.

Please note that school is unable to accept direct placement requests for The Den from parents or carers.
