Design & Technology (DT) Intent

Our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to inspire pupils to become creative, practical, and reflective designers who can confidently engage with the world around them. We aim to develop children’s understanding of how products are designed, made, and evaluated, equipping them with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to solve real and meaningful problems.

Through carefully sequenced learning in areas such as structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems, and cooking and nutrition, pupils are encouraged to think critically, work imaginatively, and take risks in a safe and supportive environment. They learn to design with purpose, make with precision, and evaluate with insight, building resilience through an iterative process of improvement.

Our DT curriculum is enriched by our school drivers—Culture Detectives, Personal Adventurers, Dream Catchers, and Curious Explorers—which ensure that learning is relevant, engaging, and connected to the wider world. Pupils explore global design influences, express their individuality, consider sustainable futures, and develop a spirit of enquiry that drives curiosity and innovation.

By the end of their journey, children leave with a strong foundation of practical skills, technical understanding, and creative confidence, preparing them to contribute thoughtfully and responsibly to an ever-changing world.
